Healthy Chocolate Banana Ice Cream
Make healthy chocolate ice cream with frozen bananas, cocoa powder, almond milk and almond butter. It is delicious, healthy, dairy-free and does not require an ice cream maker!
Throughout the summer months I seem to crave ice cream. Perhaps the childhood memories of chocolate and strawberry cones from Carl's Ice Cream, the most effective ice cream shop ever. Or maybe the fact that it is hot outside and I need something to cool down. Either way, I was able to eat ice cream every day. It was always my favorite dessert so when I found out you could make ice cream with ONE ingredient (frozen banana) I was in heaven.

I really have to thank my mother-in-law for that idea because she was the one who introduced me to it. This happened years ago - before the Pinterest world. Now everyone knows about frozen banana ice cream, which is amazing !! I'm waiting for someone to open a healthy fruit-based ice cream shop here in Richmond.
Anyway, this summer I was at the banana ice cream bender… again. I did a lot of different combo and got a new favorite.
Here's What You Need:
frozen bananas - I recommend peeling and chopping your bananas before they are cold to make it easier to combine! Check out my banana freeze guide for tips and tricks!
almond milk - I used sweet almond chocolate milk to get more chocolate flavor without adding sugar and it was delicious! The sugar-free almond vanilla milk works well too.
almond butter - any type of almond butter works - make sure the ingredients are only almonds and salt! I like Whole Foods or Trader Joe varieties.
cocoa powder - or cocoa powder works!
cork nibs or chocolate chips - optional but I love the texture you add. If you are using chocolate chips, I recommend Lily's chocolate chips as you have no extra sugar.
We all know that bananas and chocolates go well together, but you introduce almond butter to the mix and things get real. Chocolate, bananas and almond butter = trifecta.
In all my years buying the Almond Breeze for the first time I bought sweet candy. You're crazy, aren't you? Glad I finally decided to try it out because I find myself buying it again. I actually used it as a creamer for my cold and very tasty coffee. Like mocha iced latte.
Do you see how smooth and creamy it is?!?
Get Wise!
I added a few cocoa nibs to lightly shave, but they were completely optional. Isaac hates crackers like nuts and chocolate chips in his ice cream (or brownies) so I find that some people will not be fans.
Nibs or no nibs, this healthy ice cream is so good and incredibly easy to make! Ready for the recipe?
